In its two-year long teaching programme, MTS – MUSICAL! THE SCHOOL gives the students the tools to master the craft and become performing arts professionals, through a training course designed in order to arouse artistic, intellectual and personal development. The hard, strict and practical training is enriched by the contextual study of theoretical and cultural subjects which enable students to understand stylistic, historical and professional aspects of the area. MTS – MUSICAL! THE SCHOOL provides a strong artistic, technical and cultural background through a path in which students are invited to try and discover themselves again, first as human beings and consequently as artists and evolving professionals. Teachers let them build their basis through the study of each subject; dancing, singing and acting, then they set up the ground for the stage work, through the interaction of said subjects, giving the students the tools and means to undertake a multifaceted career as all-round artists, fully capable to express themselves on stage in every kind of performance and show.
MTS – MUSICAL! THE SCHOOL is not an acting, singing or dancing academy, but a place where future artists are forged.
The didactic-pedagogical programme is organized on a biennial basis:
1° YEAR
Students are led to undertake a self-discovery process through an introspective and emotional journey, leading to an artistic awareness which is pivotal to utilize their own learning and interpretative tools at their best. In the first four months they steady the technical basis on swing, voice and spoken word, physical and psychological self-knowledge, all of which is tested through examinations. In the second year, the technical aspect is deepened. The first year’s final exam includes theory and practice tests.
The three main learning paths include:
- Dancing: each student joins the dancing study group according to his or her learning level (basic, medium or advanced) in ballet, jazz dance, acrobatics and tap dance. A special care is dedicated to posture.
- Singing: choral singing classes, single classes, vocal technique, breathing, musical theory, tonic sol-fa and LCM exam.
- Interpretation: emotional training, diction, spoken word training and acting both in Italian and in English.
The didactic-pedagogical package also includes history of theatrical and cinematographic musical comedy, fencing, choreographic workshop and the MTS LAB initiative, with specific classes divided according to subjects or interaction between subjects. Second year programme is a continuation into reinforcing technical, physical and cultural preparation, developing interpretative and expressive gifts according to every single student’s artistic personality and attitude. Tests and examinations are carried out throughout the two four- month period leading up to the final graduation exam, which certifies the passage from school level into professional field.
2° YEAR
Programme is a continuation into reinforcing technical, physical and cultural preparation, developing interpretative and expressive gifts according to every single student’s artistic personality and attitude. Tests and examinations are carried out throughout the two four-
month period leading up to the final graduation exam, which certifies the passage from school level into professional field.
The three main learning paths include:
- Dancing: each student joins the dancing study group according to his or her learning level (basic, medium/advanced) in ballet, jazz dance, musical repertoire, acrobatics and tap dance.
- Singing: choral singing classes, single classes, vocal technique, musical theory and tonic sol-fa along with a study of piano and interpretation. LCM exam is included in the programme.
- Interpretation: acting, study of scenes and monologues along with acting in English.
The didactic-pedagogical package also includes audition simulation, history of theatrical and cinematographic musical comedy, theatrical make-up, choreographic workshop and the MTS LAB initiative, with specific classes divided according to subjects or interaction between subjects. The academy releases the staging of shows and musical comedies as an additional teaching experience; various subjects interact and students match themselves with the job in actual shows, complete with set design and costumes, learning side by side with directors, choreographers and professional musical directors.
MTS – MUSICAL! THE SCHOOL also provides the students with the following team of professionals:
- a listening desk (in anonymous form): two psychologists are ready and willing to help facing the introspective path and group dynamics, also providing personal assistance in this pivotal phase of personal growth;
- asports masseur and osteopath for preventing, intervening and eventually healing problems and occurrences related to physical and sports activities;
- a nutritionist, for a correct diet according to the kind of activity;
- a speech pathologist, for the health of the vocal apparatus.
MTS – MUSICAL! THE SCHOOL is strictly limited enrollment, with a maximum charge of 25 students between 18 and 27 years of age per course each year. The course runs generally from October until June for 31 weeks with compulsory attendance.
Classes are carried out regularly from Monday to Saturday for a total of approx. 35 weekly hours.
